AMERICA: LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!
OK, President Bush has been sworn into his second term as President and the Deacon is as happy as a newborn pig in a big ole' mud whole...but, after surfin through blogs today, the happiness is startin' to wear off...what's up with the whole blackout bush thing today? I know its a form of protest, but I'm sorry, I'm sure their going to not inaugarate him just because some people are protesting by not showing their blogs....which brings me to my point....if you don't love it, leave it...you can speak your mind, but, please, when the time to stand together behind a person, (let's see, namely today, behind our President) don't complain and moan about what he should have, could have done....everyone is entitled to mistakes..."let he who is without sin cast the first stone"....I think that the way that I completely feel is summed up by Merle Haggard's classic, "The Fightin' Side of Me":
THE FIGHTIN' SIDE OF ME (Merle Haggard)
performed by Merle Haggard (1970)
I hear people talking bad
About the way they have to live here in this country
Harping on the wars we fight
Griping about the way things ought to be
I don't mind them switching sides
And standing up for things they believe in
When they're running down our country man
They're walking on the fighting side of me
They're walking on the fightin' side of me
Running down a way of life
Our fighting men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song that I'm singing be a warning
When you're running down our country hoss
You're walking on the fightin' side of me
I read about some squirrely guy
Who claims that he just don't believe in fighting
And I wonder just how long
The rest of us can count on being free
They love our milk and honey
But they preach about some other way of living
And when they're running down our country man
They're walking on the fightin' side of me
They're walking on the fightin' side of me
Running down a way of life
Our fighting men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song that I'm singing be a warning
When you're running down our country man
You're walking on the fightin' side of me
They're walking on the fightin' side of me
Running down a way of life
Our fighting men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song that I'm singing be a warning
When you're running down our country hoss
You're walking on the fightin' side of me

BTW - I'm not a Republican or Democrate - you don't need a label to know the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, evil and good.

I agreed with you up until "if you don't love it, leave it."
Freedom of speech has long been a cornerstone of the United States.
To suggest that anyone expresssing their opinion (on one man, and the consequent actions taken by his administration - not the entirity of the U.S) should "leave" is ridiculous.
People aren't automatically respectable because they hold a position of authority, nor do their past decisions erase when that authority is renewed.
I love America, and I detest the President. I'm in love with an American, and I detest another American.
George W Bush and his administration do not equal America as a whole. Don't be so eager to dole out judgement and ignorance until you grasp that.
I have to agree with Marie B. And, for point of reference, Merle Haggard did that song long before either Bush went into office. One other thing, he may not appreciate your using it here as a way to tie him in with the Bush politics. Country singers can get very, very angry about things like that. And he could have different views about Bush. I'd suggest you ask him before using it. ;)
I think the good Deacon makes a good point.
Carolyn, I think it's rather obvious that Mr. Haggard wrote that song long before either Bush had their turn in the White House, and that fact is completely irrelevent.
Marie B (and to EVERYONE else that has posted negatively on the Deacon's blog), what happened to having an opinion about something?
Some may say that I am biased in my comments and opinions and that is okay. I don't care what you think about what I write, but I will stand in defense of what I believe in. I will also stand in arms with my Brothers and their endeavors.
This is one of the things that I absolutely despise about demented democrats.
If you've seen my site, you know I am a minister. I am a very outspoken Pentecostal clergyman. I am also unorthodox in many things, but there are two things that I have very orthodox about: My Lord and My Country.
I have every bit of faith in George W. Bush. I THANK GOD DAILY that He has sent a man to lead our country like George W. Bush. He is a fine leader and is very worthy of our respect and admiration.
I feel that everyone who protests against our President should be charged with treason. Do you honestly think that you are helping Democracy when you protest against our democratically-elected leader? Who you should be protesting are murderous, Godless heathens and the killings being purprotrated in the Middle East.
George W. Bush is NOT responsible for those deaths. Every one of the servicemen and women that we have lost in this endeavor we call Operation Iraqi Freedom will be mourned for a very long time. But they knew what they were getting in to when they signed up for the Armed Forces.
I say that now, and I would say it if it were my own children going to fight this war. I would stand beside my children, and I would also stand behind my President and his decision to send them to fight our our freedoms and liberties that it is obvious the Looney Lefters are taking for granted.
I thank God that we have a God-fearing President leading us unlike Herman Munster... err... I mean John Kerry. You imagine for one minute that John Kerry had been elected in November. If he had been, we would be that much closer to government funded abortions and 100% legal homosexual marriage.
John Kerry was just the godless man to completely destroy the moral fabric that holds this country together. With the promise of a second Bush term, we will be that much closer to passing an Amendment completely banning homosexual unions, voiding all current homosexual unions, and ensuring the religious sanctity of marriage.
Some have read on the Internet that George W. Bush will be working this term to repeal the Constitutional amendment that prohibits Presidents from serving more than two terms. That would truly be a sign from God. I would vote for George W. Bush again, and again, and again until the day I die.
If you haven't gathered it yet, I am in FULL SUPPORT of what the good Deacon has to say. If you don't like America, its elected leaders or its policies, then by all means LEAVE. You have your choice of two international borders and two oceans. I hear Cuba is rather nice this season, and Castro is very welcoming to American immigrants.
This country is ready for a full-on Evangelical revival and George W. Bush is just the man to lead us to that revival.
PRAISE GOD for those who voted in favor of faith and morality.
The Church of Dysfunction
The Constitution doesn't say anywhere "These are our rules, and if you don't like it, you can leave." The 1st Amendment gives anyone the right to protest the government that has been elected into office, and it gives you the right to call them a bunch of morons.
I'm sorry, but I hate this whole thing of if you don't agree you can get out. America is not a country club, it's a country that many people have been born into, who have been given the right to speak their minds.
I am writing to you in South Korea. That's not because someone called me a communist and threw me on a plane, it's because I wanted to live overseas for a bit.
Well Kate, that's all well and good that you live in a Communist state, but I DON'T CARE.
My point is exactly this: If you don't like America or the people that we AMERICANS vote to run our country, then you can pack your bags and leave.
Yes, this is a free country and you can leave any time you want.
And here's something else for all of you... if you didn't vote in the election, you have no right to complain.

"Love it or leave it" is just plain wrong. No American has to love what its government is doing. Working contructively to make America better is what Patriots do. I can't think of a name for the attitude I'm reading here.
I try to stay away from the majority of the political forums because I find that many of the arguements lack critical thinking or the true spirit of debate. However, I'm on BlogClicker so I gave the post a real read. Then read the comments.
Frankly, I'm shaking my head in bewilderment. Not so much because of the original post by the owner of the blog. But at the arguments of the Rev debating with "what happened to the right to have an opinion" in reference to the blogowner but using that as a reason to back up those that disagree with Bush as having no right to voice their opinion. Which is it? We have rights to speak our minds/opinions (legally, peacefully, etc.) on politics, or we don't? Having a wee bit of difficulty following the logic.
Dave,
I think that the word you are looking for would be "Patriotism"...
scuse me! I believe the Rev. is speaking of God's right. Not the Bill of Rights, which we know are man made and very general and non-specific. What was writen in the Constitution and Bill of Rights is in general terms, Unfortunately, and leaves out specifics and details because man is just not smart enough to write such an all inclusive document. They are fallible, but the foundation of them was the Ten Commandments of God, which are very specific, no way to misinterpret, add to nor take anything away from.
Have to agree with the Rev. If you cannot accept God's word, and want to live under a constitution being stretch beyond recognition, then the remedy for you is look for another society to live under and recognize that it is God that is still in control, whether those of us want to believe it or not.
I am a veteran but do not believe these folk that claim we faught to preserve our freedom, we faught to give you freedom to have rights, but not the right to do wrong.
